RIBA Executive Board Meeting, June 5, 2008
Present: Everett Zurlinden, Mike Southern, Ed Lafferty, Kit
Mayers, Lou Chasse, Bernie Beider, Bill Jones. Betty Mencucci
was unable to attend.
Open items from last e-board meeting
- Suggestion to use the East
Greenwich Grange as a permanent meeting place during the winter months
- Consideration to meet at least
once a year in the East Bay side of the State
Discussion items
- Expenses. We were able to make some comparisons between this year and last years figures as a start to planning a budget
- Members dues. Membership shows a slight nett increase. The bee schools introduce more members but there are also drop-offs each year
- Sources of new members
- Shows and "public appearances"
- Inventory. The need to keep accurate track of items and equipment owned by RIBA
- Fall Dinner. Speaker Jeff Pettis (check spelling)
- Bee Learn. Discussed the name, charitable status, and bylaws. New bylaws are written that clarify a linkage with RIBA in terms of membership, and allow the membership to elect different officers for RIBA and Bee Learn if members so choose. We also dicussed the current donor (who is essentially the reason for Bee Learns existence), opening up the charitable status for donations from other sources, and the positioning of Bee Learn as a grant-attracting, curriculum-developing educational arm of RIBA
- "Corporate identity". Kit suggested we run a competition to see if we can find a logo for the association.
- Members meeting Agenda will contain discussion of this report, Jim Lawsons discussion of integrated pest management, treasurers report, discussion of our bee health plus other usual culprits
Action items
- Everett to call members who are late paying this years membership dues
- Mike Southern to produce membership application forms available to officers to use without always referring to Bill
- Mike and Everett to develop a convenient online inventory list (not for public use)
- Need Harvest Dinner honey judges. Also need to send this and other event dates to appropriate publications
- Bee Learn draft bylaws to be published online the weekend of 6/7, with printed copies available at the 6/8 members meeting. Members then are able to question and comment until the meeting of 7/13 when hopefully we can vote to approve. A separate email/communication will be sent explaining this
- Mike to suggest a set of requirements that a new logo has to meet - such as ability to use online and in print - and will discuss with members on Sunday
